I only met Drew once when he was dating a cousin of my wife a few years ago. He was a bright and freindly person with a ready smile and a warm personality.
I am deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of his death and offer my deapest condolences to his family and freinds.

Hopefully the thought that he died protecting his family will come as some small comfort to you all at this tragic time.

It seems so corny but Drew really was one of those great people. I’ve been trying to think of stories, there are so many but writing them doesnt seem to say anything. Drew LIVED life. He loved a party, he loved the ocean, he loved Hervey Bay, he loved his friends and he loved his family. And many more things I’m sure that I never knew of. He was super loyal and would help anyone out. He got a friend of mine his first job in the med, on a night out in fremantle he wouldn’t let a friend walk alone to her car, he once convinced me to do a road trip to Hervey Bay from Sydney on the spot with nothing but the clothes I was standing in because we hadn’t seen each other in ages. He was a complete dag and wore the loudest shirt he could find and a crumpled hat. And everyone loved him, you just couldn’t help it.
We cant believe it and my heart goes out to his partner, his daughters, his family and all his friends. He really will be sorely missed.

Hublub Drewdle Golliwog. Readers will have no clue but Drew would. I remember you sitting on my bedroom floor playing with my electric trains when you were 10. I remember your badass shirts and your cheekiest of all faces. I hadnt seen you in such a long time mate and I so regret that I didnt get in touch with you just to say g’day. And now because of some gutless piece of shit we all miss out on spending time with a guy whose smile could make the whole world light up. You were always the kinda guy who would protect and stand up for your friends – it sux that you died for your natural ways but you died in my eyes at least, a hero. I will remember you Drew and I will tell my kids about you and the fun we had as kids.

Update on Security and news

There is a vigil Sunday to honor the victims of violence. A march will start at 4 PM in Marsh Village and proceed to Dockyard. All are invited to attend and are asked to bring a candle.

I just spoke to a close friend who has business in the Dockyard. The police presence is greatly ramped up with random searches of yachts and cars in and around Dockyard. As a result many yachts are leaving as they are not happy with the police presence. The police are trying to increase their presence but many dislike the intrusion. Ya, can’t win.

There are thousands of caring and kind individuals on this island. It’s wrong that a few bad apples ruin it for so many. The Antigua Sun is reporting some suspects were brought in concerning Drew’s murder. I am confidant they will find his killer.

How can anyone be so judgemental about how a person deals with a life and death situation like Drew was forced to deal with, this attack would have happened so quick and if anyone can think straight in those seconds they would not be human. Buddy you need to hang your head in shame. I, amongst so many people knew Drew in Hervey Bay and we were blessed to have him in our community and he will sorely be missed as everyone in the boating community here was looking forward to seeing him and his family return.

Trudy, can you tell us a little something special about Drew? A special memory or something about his life in NSW? Thanks for reading. It has been so sad for so many of us to read the accounts of his death. We all have a brother, or son or friend and only too can relate to this tragedy.

Shane, I know too well the utter grief one feels when they lose a friend to death. I can only imagine how you and Drew’s other buddies and family feel. It must be complete numbness. Reading about his life and love and journey as little as I can see, it is clear he was a completely wonderful passionate person in all that he lived and pursued. Heal well and let everyone know everyone in Wadadli (Antigua) is mourning his death.
